The SSDN Learning Center makes outstanding educational programs affordable for families to ensure that their children enter elementary school ready to learn.
The Learning Center supports the emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development needs of children ages six weeks to six years. Licensed by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and accredited by Missouri Voluntary Accreditation, our credentialed and degreed educators provide a safe, nurturing learning environment for 102 children year round. We welcome children with special needs and make sure they get the care and resources they need while including them in classroom activities. Our preschool is a Head Start center offering excellent preparation for kindergarten. We offer holistic services that help a child reach his or her full potential.
Our Family and Community Coordinator works with our educators and with families to ensure that children learn at their best. Each child's development is monitored through vision, hearing, speech, medical, developmental, and dental screenings. If needed, children receive on-site speech, play, physical and occupational therapy, or are referred to off-site specialists.
Through a combination of federal and state subsidies, SSDN is able to provide these services free of charge to qualifying families, with a nominal charge for extended day care (before 9 am and after 3 pm). With a sliding fee scale for families whose income does not qualify them for Early Head Start or Head Start, SSDN ensures the same quality programming for families at every income level. The Learning Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 5:45 pm, year-round (closed for 10 holidays per year).
